COMMISSIONING AN ARTWORK

Commissioning an artwork from me is really quite a simple process..........

Take a look at my Gallery to see the artworks I've created and find one, or several that you like. Maybe you would like something in a different colour, different colour combinations or size and material.

Then get in touch by email, or using the contact form below, and we can start a conversation about what you would like me to create for you. You will need to have a budget in mind and let me know what timescale you have, especially if the piece is going to be a gift on a certain date.

My artworks are intricate and detailed so please allow at least four weeks for me to complete.

AN EXAMPLE OF THE PROCESS

Jane and Mike Squire got in touch from Squires Fish Restaurant in Braunton in Devon, UK asking if I could make a large scale fish artwork. Instead of making it from watercolour paper they wanted it in polymer clay as they had seen my artworks "The Golden One - Circle of Koi" and "Two Koi".

The process was really enjoyable as I like a challenge and we had lots of communication to finalise exactly what they wanted and the I set about making. I hadn't made an artwork like this so I had to source a sturdy enough backing board, work out how I would attach the polymer clay fish to it, and then make some new, larger fish moulds.

Once the moulds were ready I set about making sheets of polymer clay which were then pressed into the moulds to form the fish shapes, and fired to harden them. Once fired they each had a coating of resin to make them super glossy and protect the surface of the clay as they would be open to be touched and not behind glass.

Meanwhile the melamine covered board had been to the framers and also had heavy duty hanging attachments put on the back as I knew this artwork was going to be pretty heavy.

Once I had made all of the fish I marked out where they were going to be positioned on the board and then drilled two holes for each so that I could use wooden dowls to attached each one.

Jane and Mike very kindly invited me to stay for the weekend to deliver the finished artwork so I was able to meet them and their team, eat some fabulous food in their restaurants, and see my art in its new home which was the icing on the cake and very satisfying.
